Philips Semiconductors Standardizes On Synplicity FPGA Synthesis and ASIC Verification Products

SUNNYVALE, Calif. & EINDHOVEN, The Netherlands--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Oct. 15, 2001

Joint Development Efforts To Provide Optimized Verification

Solution to Philips Semiconductors' Customers

Synplicity, Inc. (Nasdaq: SYNP), a leading supplier of software for the design and verification of semiconductors, and Philips Semiconductors, a division of Royal Philips Electronics (AEX: PHI, NYSE: PHG), today announced the companies have signed an agreement whereby Synplicity will provide Philips Semiconductors' design teams access to all of Synplicity's current synthesis and ASIC verification products. The companies also announced that Philips Semiconductors will standardize on Synplicity's FPGA synthesis and ASIC verification products in their supported flow for single and multi-FPGA platforms. Synplicity and Philips Semiconductors plan to jointly enhance the Certify® software to offer Philips Semiconductors' customers an optimized ASIC verification solution.

``We have been very happy with the quality of results and performance we have achieved using Synplicity's FPGA synthesis and ASIC verification software, and we are pleased to standardize on those products today,'' said Marinus van Lier, Department Manager System Level Design of the Design Technology Group at Philips Semiconductors. ``Prototyping is critical to achieving first-pass success and cost savings for our semiconductor development programs. The Certify software is the leading product we have found that allows us to prototype and verify designs split across multiple FPGAs. We have been using the Certify product for more than two years to speed our time to market and have been impressed with its ease of use, fast runtimes and the savings it can bring.''

Synplicity and Philips Semiconductors plan to enhance the Certify software and optimize the prototyping flow to enable smooth design partitioning onto Philips Semiconductors' specific prototyping platforms.

``Philips Semiconductors is a world-class electronics company, and we are thrilled they have chosen our FPGA synthesis and ASIC verification products as the standard for their design teams,'' said Erhaan Shaikh, Synplicity's European managing director. ``We are committed to the success of Philips Semiconductors and its customers worldwide, and will continue to innovate our products to support their design needs. Through our development efforts, we plan to deliver a highly optimized version of our Certify software for Philips Semiconductors, seeking to further ease the prototype development process.''
